Tuesday 6th July 2010 Introductory Trip

Blaenavon Iron Works World Heritage Site trip including, Pwll Mawr (Big Pit) trip. 10.30am - 5.00pm. Free entry to Blaenavon iron works (1789 'the best preserved 18th Century ironworks in the world') and the Big Pit including trip 300ft underground into mine workings.

Coach £5, limited to 100 people, 2 trips down the pit, 1 at 1.00, 1 at 2.00, leave Blaenavon 3.15 back at Kidwelly 5.15 - 5.30. Book online  (opens in new window)

Dr Kathryn Roberts of CADW (the trustees of historical monuments in Wales) talk on the history of Kidwelly castle at the castle Free. TBA

Wednesday 7th July 2010 On site 'field kitchen' all day

Registration - Reception area. 9.00 am onwards.

Finishing of the smelting and results Demos, Jake Keen, ancient Chinese Echeng furnace, from iron ore to cast iron in one process. TBC

Mike Blue, and Mick Maxen forge steel from Wayne Potratz Tatara Furnace

Hector Cole, forging of bloom from Tim Youngs medieval European furnace using a pit hearth forge. TBC

Green sand moulding Matt Sigmon, Welding Demo Thermadyne Industries focusing on cast iron but the procedure for welding dissimilar materials will be explored. 12.30 - 4.00

Tamsie Ringler - 'Transmission' a car becomes a mould becomes a sculpture

Castle opening 7.00 - 9.00.

9.30 onwards suitcase furnace pour TBC. Food stalls on site for the evening.
